Cercis siliquastrum

This is Cercis siliquastrum, a deciduous tree with bright pink clustered pea-flowers and heart shaped leaves. The spring flowers form on last season's growth and set fruit in autumn. It is a rather fascinating plant as it is a cauliflorous tree, meaning flowers and fruit can grow from the main stem or trunk at what appears to be at random intervals.

Growing up-to 8-12 meters over 20-50 years, this plant will be a perfect touch to add scent and a pop of colour to any garden, especially in a border as it needs full sun to partial shade in a sheltered area in loamy, well drained soil.
Hardiness: H5

This plant caught my attention while I was playing tennis due to its sweet smell. I followed my nose and found this Cercis siliquastrum just behind the tennis courts. It smelt just like a bottle of perfume, I know I'd definitely wear it!
